Secret Wars Malmö - the Final!

BAAAAAAM!!!

1200 people can't be wrong!!
The old sausage skin factory was filled to it's very limit on friday when the epic SW Malmö 2008 tournament reached its conclusion..
Another Secret Wars & Smutsiga Södern collaboration had Ossian and Fabian battle it out in front of a massive crowd and the party kept going until 6 in the morning!


Special guests beatboxer Reeps One (London, UK) and rappers J-Ro (Tha Alkaholiks, etc) & Bini el Luchador took turns at entertaining the crowd. Everyone from everywhere got their feet dirty and drank beer until the bar ran out(!?). An amazing night!




Secret Wars Malmö 2008 result:

Ossian vs. Fabian 2-1

Fabian came into the final on the back of two straight 3-0 victories and was considered as the favourite by many. He chose to continue the "shop-theme" he established in his semi-final, creating a nursery and plonking a baby version of Ossian in the middle. Ossian responded with an energetic piece bringing back some serioulsy old-school dizzes..! "Talk to the hand, cus..."





It turned out to be real close battle and the first judge to be asked still hadn't made his mind up when asked after 20 min of thought!? Instead Lars from Molotow TV stepped up and cast his vote in favour of Ossian.
Next up was the ol' decibel reader and after some ear-numbing screaming it turned out Fabian had won the crowd's vote by as little as 0.2dB.. 1-1!
Finally the last judge, Dick from Impala, had made his mind up....he showed a whiteboard with Ossian's name on it and the score landed at 2-1 to Ossian, the first ever Malmö Secret Wars champion!!



Congratulations to the winner! He will now go on to represent Malmö against Gothenburg in a planned 2on2 battle early next year. Also look out for a limited edition t-shirt in collabo with Reebok and Impala!! Not to mention specially customized Reebok sneakers at your favourite Malmö streetwear store..


So....it all ended happily. Eight talented artists gave their all and after seven hard fought battles only one remains. Let's take a breather and then do it all again!!

Secret Wars Malmö - Semifinals!

What a blast!
No rain and biggest crowd yet!!
Two tickets to the grand final were at stake and all four artists brought their A-game..


Semi finals results:

Ossian vs. Fridelic 2-1
Crowd's vote went to Fridelic, but both the judges wanted Ossian's cat to prowl into the final.

Ikkyro vs. Fabian 0-3
The two contestants followed each other closely across the board, exchanging hard punches. In the end there could only be one winner though.. Fabian took all three votes and is ready for the final!

Secret Wars Malmö - Q-finals 3 & 4

The Malmö tournament continued in style on the 24th October.
Despite the rain a good 500 people showed up and partied until 7 in the morning!









Pistolina vs. Ikkyro 1-2


This battle was full of swords and blood with both artists going for a literal interpretation of "Wars". Ikkyro's fantasy army got both the judges votes, while Pistolina's stylish reply got the crowds vote.


Fabian vs. Camilla von Eklund 3-0


After the warm-up at Impala many rated Camilla as their favourite to scoop the 1st prize in November...but Fabian definitely had other ideas!
This top class battle was fought on all kinds of levels and in the end Fabian ran out a 3-0 winner and booked a place in the semis.

Secret Wars MALMÖ - Q-finals 1&2

On 3rd of October we kicked off the Secret Wars 2008 Malmö tournament at the secret sausage skin factory location...and it was a smashing success!




A good 500 people turned up to see Box Rock Man vs. Ossian and Code26 vs. Fridelic and they were treated to explicit artwork, a judging controversy, crazy beatboxing and a damn good party!











Box Rock Man vs. Ossian 0-3

B-R Man tried a very novel approach to the Secret Wars battle format, using written text (lyrics) as a major part of his piece. Ossian counterpunched with a straight up caricature. Judges (Terry Guy & Adam Blomgren) and the audience scored the contest an unanimous win for Ossian.


Code26 vs. Fridelic 0-1

Code26 used some inside info to attack the fact that Fridelic studies architecture with a massive Code26-Robot smashing buildings. Fridlic played along with the set theme and drew herself as "miss turning torso" snareing Code26 with some very surrealistic artwork.
To everyone's surprise the two judges decided that both their votes were blanks!?!?!
This left it all down to the crowd's vote and the vocal support for Fridelic was superior.

Malmö SW Competition

It's on!

Malmö will be the battleground for a local Secret Wars competition during the autumn and it all kicks off on Friday!! 8 exciting artists are preparing themselves with ancient ninja techniques and marker meditation as we speak..

The first two quarter finals will take place on the 3rd of October at a for now secret location, stay tuned for updates..

In July Secret Wars Scandinavia joined forces with the other SW-chapters and headed down to sunny Barcelona for a week of live art mayhem at the Bread & Butter trade show!

SWE vs ENG - 10th May 2008 - Great Success!

In May Secret Wars Scandinavia premiered in Malmö with a Sweden vs. England 2 on 2 battle..

A healthy dose of exposure in local TV, radio and newspapers together with a warm up event in classic streetwear store Impala created the right hype. The battle itself went down on a roof and a over 600 strong crowd showed up despite the location being kept a secret..!!!

The experienced English team ran out 2-1 winners in an interesting battle of styles. Thanks to TECK1, JIMI CRAYON, FINSTA and LEOLYXXX for some wicked artwork! ..and thanks to everyone showing up!
